Give Her A Hand

You might be wondering what Nila is up to these days? Growing a gigantor left hand, apparently!

Seriously, she's all over the place! We have a rug we bought for her to safely roll around on (seperate from the carpet which is a little harder)...which worked for about a month. Now she rolls off of it, er, I should say magically appears off of it! because she is starting to crawl a little. Her crib is on the rug, and I don't think she has figured out that she can't manuever her way under it - so, when we're playing there, she scoots next to it and then whines when she can't get all the way under it. Weirdo.

And she has two boyfriends already. One American (canuvworms.blogspot.com) and one Kurdish - our translator. She does that thing where when they smile at her or look at her, she smiles back for a little while so huge...and then it's as if she is overcome with giddiness and can't take it anymore! and she hides herself in my chest! then she'll start the whole thing over again. It's cute. She does it with her dad too in the morning when she first wakes up if she can get him out of bed!

We continue to think she's teething, as we have since she was three weeks old. haha! But for real this time... If she ever really pops a tooth, I'm sure that all of our city will know about it! All the time when we go out, she chews her fingers or our fingers and I have to tell the Kurdish women in Kurdish, "her teeth" or I just point to them... or I tell them that "In America, babies eat their fingers and it's ok." Otherwise, they will grab her fingers out of her mouth, and if I'm not careful, shove their own boob in! HAHA! (First part happens all the time. Luckily, the second part hasn't happened to me, but did to a friend! I have had two grandmothers offer their breast to me in an effort to show me the "right" way to feed Nila or to try to just get me to feed her! So you can see why it's important to know how to tell them she's teething.)

Ah... good times. She's doing well, and all the time people tell us what a happy baby she is. Bob and I can't get over how cute she is. I know everyone must say that about their children, but we all know it's not true. Some kids are just ugly to start... She's not one of those! She's really cute - and has the personality to match.

Oh! and for those who are wondering - about two and a half weeks ago we had her weighed...at the grocery store on the veggie scale! It was great...people were taking pictures with their cell phones even. She tipped the scales at a hefty 12.5 pounds. That might not seem like much going into five months (at the time)... but considering she left the hospital at 4 lbs 10 oz - and she's supposed to triple her weight by six months - she's right on target it seems! We joked about a 15lb six month old, but...as long as she is healthy, I'll take her!

Oh, and Bob said in that last post that she is wearing 6-9 month clothes. She is wearing one piece of 6-9 month clothing. Other than that, she's wearing still her newborn stuff, or mostly she's wearing the 3-6 mos clothing that we brought with us. It's very difficult to find clothes here small enough. We haven't bought anything for her here that she can actully wear. I will place an order with Old Navy and Gap for some spring clothes this week. Have you seen any other cute clothes or sensible toys out there we should get? What do you do with a baby who is starting to crawl and get themselves around?
